about

LOSS was recorded on January 30 and 31, 2016 at Salon Berlin Studios in Berlin.

I played my Gibson Les Paul Standard simultaneously through 4 of my old amps - an Orange, a Marshall JCM 900, a Sunn Concert Lead and a Sunn Model T. Thanks for the cab, Mick!

Producer Pastor Mevistopheles aka Christian Mevs set up 14 -18 mics not only in the studio, but also in the neighbouring rooms and on the outside in order to capture the buildings sound. You get an impression of this at some intros and outros. Listen to cold winter rain! The Pastor has many great ideas about producing music and how to push the red button. It seems he has about 200 years of experience.

I had the rough idea and skeleton of each track written on one piece of paper each and started from there. So the takes came out both improvised and composed. I let it flow, but kept control. There were only 3 or 4 overdubs of a second guitar or voice. All of it was recorded only in the first take.

The Pastor and me mixed the 8 songs in a couple of sessions from February to April. Then he mastered them.

Finally the song titles came to me on ferry rides on the Baltic Sea, when 100000 Tonnen Kruppstahl toured Finland and Estonia in May 2016.

The songs may sound very dark. But you can hear a lot of light in them, if you listen closely. Die Höhen sind in mir.
